Racing Simulator

For Christmas Rose is going to get me a racing wheel.  Going  for the Fanatec Porsche 911 Turbo wheel, it’s pretty much awesome with great force feedback even in the pedals, and a 6 speed shifter (very important to me!  What’s the point of a driving sim if it doesn’t feel like you’re driving?)  Anyways I also wanted to build a computer gaming chair / racing sim.  So this is the concept I’ve come up with!  PVC pipe will help me keep the cost down, I’m going to get a PVC welder / bender so that I can make it super strong and get the curves I want.  The two light blue sides I want to make out of one piece as with the two green ones on the bottom.   Also plan on mounting a 5.1 surround sound setup on here… I’ll post again when I have the full picture.  Still working on learning some 3D design things so this is pretty basic, but I’ll get a concept up with the seat and mock up wheel, keyboard, computer, speakers, seat, etc.

My web development progress… or lack there of :-P

This post is more geared towards newbs in the field like myself, and will go over both advantages I’ve found and disadvantages. First off lets start by saying that my progress in the website development world has been VERY slow and everything has been self taught. I started out in 7th grade on NeoPets.com where I learned about “NeoHTML” which wasn’t actually HTML at all it was CSS that you used so that you could format your page. Then I actually started to use HTML when I got Archmaille.com which originally was where I tried selling my sterling silver jewelry (if you don’t believe me check out Way Back Machine) I hand coded the site at first, later on some webmaster forums I learned how to combine my knowledge of CSS and HTML to create prettier pages. I finally started to dable in PHP when I got kclanparty.org where I first had PHPNuke installed. Didn’t do much more than the template, and a few custom add ons… but it helped me to learn the interaction of PHP and HTML. Later on I learned of the beauties that come with Wordpress soon abandoning PHPNuke. I mean the only feature of Nuke I really used was the blog so why bother with all that clutter, and growing insecurities?

At this point not only my knowledge of the difference between good code, and the interactions of the different foundational languages was growing, but so was my portfolio of websites. Moving into the upper 20’s the list of domains I owned seemed to be growing month by month. Now with several Wordpress websites, the experience with PHPNuke, (also some PHPBB), and ArchmailleDesigns.com where my jewelry store moved with a custom PHP shopping cart… it was about time that I actually learned how to code a website in PHP from the ground up.

I went out and purchased several books on PHP and MySQL because what I wanted to do you really can’t have one without the other. After several chapters of these books I wasn’t really getting to anything terribly interesting to me. I was learning names of things that I’ve been using for a long time, which is helpful to a point, but not as much as you might think. I could now search for solutions when I had problems which was nice, but I wasn’t having many problems with the few things I knew.

Later when I was working on the security team with MTV protecting their websites I learned of the great world of PHP frameworks. Or rather MVC frameworks in general. I tried many of them but really attached myself to CakePHP since the others were basically worthless as you still had to write 100% of the code how is that quicker? With cake you’ve got the beautiful Bake function where you can bake up a simple CRUD (Create Read Update Delete) website in a matter of minutes (assuming you already have the database ready) What CakePHP really taught me was the importance of good Database Structure, hell it taught me database structure all together, but since it was writing 90% of the code for me and I was once again editing it… needless to say I’ve still not learned any sort of real code.

Which brings me to the downsides of PHP frameworks I still don’t know what I’m doing! I built PetitionsForChange.com in less than 2 weeks! It really is amazing how quickly you can build a website with a framework… but now I am starting to build websites more and more complex, each new project has new complexities that come with it. Now that I’ve become more comfortable with CakePHP it is once again time to move out on my own and start to learn just PHP by itself. I’ve actually learned MySQL very well which I didn’t know before, so I feel more confident to go out and take on the task of building a website in straight out PHP.

Web Hosting Geeks

I’ve stressed to my readers time in and time out on all of my blogs the importance of when you decide to go online to DO YOUR HOMEWORK! Whether you’re purchasing a new computer, computer parts, a car, or whatever you should research that product, research the company, research their customer support. I tell the same thing to all the people out there looking to go online with their business. I tell them that when you’re looking for web site hosting look up the company, look up what they stand for and how they do business. Not doing so is just asking for trouble. I know when I first moved my business online I was naive and just looked for a manageable price on everything. Then turns out the company that I went with was impossible to get a hold of, their server wouldn’t allow me to upload via FTP, and .htaccess files were not allowed so I couldn’t run the types of sites that I wanted… needless to say I didn’t stick with that company for very long (I won’t say who it is because from what I’ve heard they’ve changed since, but I still hold a grudge so will never return to them. It’s one of the mega super hosting companies)

Format fails

ugh! Formatting = teh failz! jeez… I really REALLY don’t want to do this right now. Some of you may remember that I upgraded to a RAID 5 array well in doing so I moved from three individual hard drives to a “single” RAID drive. Which created all sorts of problems ESPECIALLY with Adobe products. Don’t ask me why but once you install an Adobe product (be in Reader, Photoshop, or anything else) the installation path is forever remembered and freaking ridiculous to get rid of. Even though I uninstalled everything from the other hard drives after ghosting the C drive to the new array now when I go to reinstall some of this stuff it won’t let me because I can’t specify an installation path and the old path is forever ingrained…

So the plan has been to uninstall everything, make backups of the information that is important, and reinstall the OS… don’t really want to wait on it for too long, but I think it’s going to have to wait until after I’m done at LifeTouch. I just don’t have the energy right now, especially with a newborn around finding the time and energy to make all the backups and what not has been more than a little bit of a pain!

RAID 5EE vs RAID 5

Here in a couple of days I’ll finally have the opportunity to order the final piece that will allow me to put my 4 500GB hdd’s in RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks). The real question is what sort of RAID array do I go for? I’ve heard a lot of conflicting opinions on the different RAID setups. Originally I wanted to go with a RAID 5 setup… then researching it I started to find a lot of information that showed RAID 5 as ALWAYS having a Hot-Spare drive… No offense, but I don’t need/want a Hot-Spare. I’m not running a full on server environment where information is mission critical… I can lose all my information and I might pout for a few days, but I’ll rebuild it, I mean my websites are all up and running respectively, and most everything can be re-obtained in some form or fashion. So double redundancy isn’t really that necessary… and I don’t need it to be rebuilt THAT fast if there was a failure.

Either way with what I’ve been seeing (don’t know if it’s true or not) but with RAID 5 I end up with 1TB of storage space and a slower speed than RAID 0 w/ 2hdds which then brought me to RAID 10 which also gives me 1TB of storage space but is as fast as two hdd’s in RAID 0. Then there’s RAID 5EE which should give me 1TB of space with who knows what sorts of speeds… I’d say about that of RAID 0 with 3hdd’s but some of the people I’ve read stuff from say no. I’ve also read on TomsHardware that regular old RAID 5 (with no Hot Spare) will give me 1.5TB of space and be as fast as RAID 0 with 3 drives… so I think that’s what I’m going to risk running… if nothing else I’ll make sure and set it up without a hot spare and it’ll give me 1.5TB of hdd space whether or not it runs too much faster.

I’m thinking that the people having troubles with speed come from running RAID with too large of a stripe size so their information isn’t getting spread out. Which brings me to another point… do I make a super small stripe size to force files to be split up, or do I go with a larger stripe size for faster transfer speeds? I’m thinking 64kb stripe size… but maybe 32 would be the better choice since I’ve got a whole bunch of little files for website things that would just eat up hdd space in no time if they were forced to take up 64kb each.

Compy Troubles Explained

Okay, so there has been a little bit of a fiasco with my computer (as I described briefly in my previous post about WordPress 2.7) that actually turned out to be not what I expected. My motherboard that I was using had issues???‚¬?¦ it had issues from the day I bought it, only noticed like 90 days afterwards when I went to start overclocking. I never got very far with overclocking because my stock CPU voltage that should of been running at 1.250 volts was running at 1.1 volts, and it took everything the motherboard had to just get it up to 1.2 so needless to say there never was much to be done on the overclocking front with that POS motherboard. I always left it at stock speed so that it could last until I could replace the mobo???‚¬?¦ that day never came. Last week I ran into a problem though, after taking my computer apart and cleaning everything I started getting BSODs every time I turned the computer on!

Finally after three days of this I got a hint into what was causing it (I was testing different things for a while, Windows had updated, and thought it might of been a software issue, but wasn???‚¬?„?t able to get the computer to stay on long enough to test that theory out). I started getting messages on the USB bus running at the wrong voltage???‚¬?¦ so instantly I thought it had to be the motherboard. In the process of ordering a new motherboard, I figured a small upgrade couldn???‚¬?„?t hurt so I also got an AMD Phenom 9850 since they???‚¬?„?re close to $150 now, combined with an AMD 790GX motherboard I figured I???‚¬?„?d have a pretty rock solid system???‚¬?¦ except since they new 9850 runs at 1066 RAM speeds I figured I???‚¬?„?d upgrade that too so I got 8 gigs of 1066 RAM???‚¬?¦ to find out that with four sticks installed it runs at 800 speeds anyways.

Anyways, after I installed everything the extra power consumption was causing BSODs sooner???‚¬?¦ So the next place I thought might be the problem was my PSU. Kind of a long shot since PC Power and Cooling makes good products???‚¬?¦ but I do have one of the first generation 1KW PSUs that had the single 12v rail so maybe there was an issue with that. After visiting Best Buy to grab a 700w power supply (hoping it was enough power for my energy sucking computer) it STILL had BSODs ass soon as Windows started up???‚¬?¦ I pulled my computer apart again and just started looking everything over???‚¬?¦ I mean the only thing left is the hard drives???‚¬?¦ I considered pulling my main drive and reinstalling windows on another one???‚¬?¦ kept messing with things until I finally realized that my pump wasn???‚¬?„?t running. Saddened and disheartened that I would have to use stock cooling for a while and figure something out how to hide my water cooling system I kept messing with things until I found that one of the pins on the molex connector for my pump had pulled out. So I pushed it back in, and taped it in place.

I still made out ahead in the deal. I???‚¬?„?ve now got 8 gigs of RAM, a sweet motherboard, and a quad core processor that pwns everything! Yeah, I know there???‚¬?„?s stuff faster on the market but for a $400 upgrade???‚¬?¦ I must say this is a HUGE performance upgrade for me???‚¬?¦ now when I get the money I just need to move to RAID 5EE and I???‚¬?„?ll be sitting pretty for the next few years.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Gotta love this time of year. Thanksgiving is a time for gathering, and getting a good full meal! Rose and I have been preparing the Thanksgiving dinner for at my mothers house for tonight… last Sunday we had a dinner at my dads house, tomorrow we get one at her parents house, and then Sunday we get another one at her Grandmothers house. So we can officially say here in a couple of weeks I’ll be all turkied out! But at least I get a few good Thanksgiving dinners! It does suck that it puts me behind with work… I always get inspired to do stuff when I have no time… why is that? Oh well, I’ve got some very good things in the works for ArchmailleDesigns.com which starts with a new shopping cart. One that I can add downloadable items to. Then creating some PDF files with jewelry care tips, others with chainmail creation patterns and stuff… and I’ll take over the search engines and just charge anywhere from 0.50¢ to $5 per downloaded item depending upon what it is. That should pick up business a little bit, people will be more willing to pay a couple bucks for useful information, rather than spending the money to buy the items… then when they get frustrated at not making stuff the same as what I sell they can come back and purchase from me once again :-P

Bloodlines

I just finished an awesome session of watching Underworld! Well Underworld and Underworld Evolutions :-D really one of the best vampire/werewolf movie series ever! The end of evolutions really makes me think that one day they???‚¬?„?ll make a sequel. If they don???‚¬?„?t that???‚¬?„?s fine too, it???‚¬?„?s still a great movie series, but I???‚¬?„?d like to see a sequel at some point in time.

Watching it got me uber pumped about internet marketing though???‚¬?¦ is that strange? I was thinking about how linking and link quality are so very much like the bloodlines in Underworld. My first site was this one Archmaille.com, it???‚¬?„?s been dormant, and gone under a lot of changes, but the strength of it is still unmatched. kclanparty.org is my next site, and it too even though it has been removed from Google for pagerank, it is still amazingly powerful. The combination of the two with MagpieRSS has just been amazing though! I can rank and get my pages listed with Google dang near instantly! The power flows down from one site to the next, and as they get older they just get more powerful. Taking the bloodline from one old site, and transfusing it with a newer one only makes the two sites so much more than they ever could be alone???‚¬?¦ and it is that which I am finally able to do! With the combination of CodySortore.com, Archmaille.com, kclanparty.org, ArchmailleDesigns.com, and ApplyMyWay.com by the end of next year I???‚¬?„?ll be making at least $6k a month from simple advertisements, and another $5k a month or so from affiliate marketing and clickbank! Oh, the possibilities are growing, and the future looks beautiful.

Right now I’m stealing the blood lines of about 20 very powerful sites (or families if you will). Using places such as Squidoo, Xanga, and Digg to piece together my measly existence. That existence grows with every page I add to their networks and link back to myself. Very slowly I inch my way to the top, soon with the development of ApplyMyWay.com I’ll be able to create my own family so powerful that I’ll dominate all of my key niches. Blogging with CodySortore.com, gaming and hardware review with Archmaille.com, Technology news with KCLANParty.org, jewelry with ArchmailleDesigns.com, and social networking or quizzes with ApplyMyWay.com with the five sites, each with its own respective niche they’ll grow and thrive together pulling in a variety of visitors to cover seasonal, and non-seasonal peak times for making money online.

Warez Helpers

I know the warez community seems to be dying off when it comes to computer games. But I know that this can be aided! Come on guys, you’re the bread and butter of the true gaming community :-P In all honesty, warez, keygens, and game “stealing” only contributes to about 1% of games on the market, but it still gets enough attention to warrant hiring some guy who’s job it is to come up with new and innovative ways that hackers can’t steal games, but isn’t too annoying for those who will buy them. If you’re a Gaming Keygens, and CD Keys kind of person check out my compilation of the greatest keygens, and cd keys around!

Gaming Keygens, and CD Keys

So I’ve compiled a few lists of some of the most famous online gaming community games ever! Well, okay, not just the games but some of the hardest to find CD keys, keygens, and authentication keys for! haha, so I’m not much for faggots that use hax and what not, but keygens… well I’ve used cd cracks and keygens for a long time myself for various things, not only games, but all sorts of programs.
