When I was a kid…
Alright, so I’m only 22 (23 in February!) there are no real “when I was a kid” statements that sound normal… kind of like last night Rose and I were watching an interview with this new actor who is the star of a television show we’re both really enjoying… yeah, well he was all like “Way back when I was 21″ and honestly he doesn’t look a day over 25 at most… But anyways, things actually have changed a lot in the last 15 years. When I was younger (here we go) you used to be allowed to skin your knees, climb trees, fall out of forts, ride your bike without training wheels *gasp*
Now it’s just harder to get into those activities. With everyone afraid of getting sued for this or that because God forbid their kid get a skinned knee while at daycare… That’ll be $10,000 in hospital bills, we had to give him his Tetanus shot, rabies shot, bandage the wound, and disinfect the area… also had to send a decontamination team to the daycare in case he has aids, wouldn’t want the other kids getting infected.
Oh my, it seems the more we know, the less we can actually live! Luckily there are some people out there still encouraging youngins to be active! This group SOGO Active has the goal of getting kids outside and doing something productive! I’m glad that this has become a goal of some non-profit organizations, especially thinking ahead to when I will be raising my son! I hate to think of play times, or going over to friends houses as sitting in front of the television playing the Xbox… rather than how it used to be building forts, blowing things up, setting a few things on fire, making potato guns, catapults, baseball… and all those other things from childhood that we hold so dearly! I don’t want my son to look back and say that he missed out on those things.
