Departing for some piraty pirateness! Arrrrgh Matey!
Well it is that time of year and I be off to the Pirate Fest in St. Louis to scam some scoundrels out of their hard earned money! I be sellin’ dem pickles and yee best be buyin’ ‘em ‘fore they gone!
haha, gettin’ some practice in for my pirate talk this weekend! Well this, and the following two afterwards to come. That’s three full weekends in St. Louis of pure pirate bliss! Rose and I are going to have a lot of fun as we get the loft again above Joe and Cathy’s Cigar shop since she’ll be working for them. I however won’t be working for them, not that I wouldn’t want to, I liked working with the little kids and may do so again at some point in time. These weekends however I be the pickle boy! I even picked up a green t’ger shirt at the KC Ren. Fest last weekend… didn’t really mean to get one for my pickle boy outfit as I don’t plan on playing that role my whole life, just worked out that way since green be me favourite colour. Green be da’ colour of me favourite thing in the wide oceans and that, matey, be money! Which I honestly hope to make a decent amount this weekend since I uh… don’t have any until I be gettin’ paid this coming Monday.
Ironically enough I was listening to Styx here while writing, and of course saw their album “Pieces of eight” which I had to look up because I’ve heard the term before, kind of forgetting what movie it came from. Then I saw it was from the third Pirates of the Carribean, just sort of odd since I’ll be a pirate this weekend.

This is a real “pieces of eight” which is a silver coin worth 8 Reale which is where the term pieces of eight comes from. Funny thing I found when looking this up is that in Pirates of the Caribbean Beckett had coins like this when they were trying to figure out what the “Pieces of Eight” were, which makes sense and works with the movie. However it may not have been so clever of the director or writers to have that in the movie since they began filming without a script and may have honestly not known that the pieces of eight were just random bits of crap they had.

This is 8 escudos, or as most of us better know it as a Doubloon all of these are Spanish currency that have made history because of their pirate associations.

And now for a half Doubloon otherwise known as 4 escudos, or eight pieces of eight which was also lightly referenced in the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and surely added to Beckett’s confusion as he tried to figure out the riddle.
